While we were in Poland, Dan and I got the best package ever: a shipment of his new CD, From Prague to Paris! They came all pretty and plastic-wrapped and full of love. We were beyond thrilled to receive them, especially since the process of writing the album started in April - it's amazing to think that we've been living with these songs for the better part of a year and had yet to sell any of them, especially since the newest ones are often the crowd favorites at live shows.
We were so lucky to have the help of extremely generous and talented friends in the recording, designing, and manufacturing of the album. A friend of ours in Paris (you might remember Greg from his ridiculously awesome collection of vinyls) put us in touch with a friend of his, a graphic designer named Perrine Rousselet who graciously offered to create images for the front and back covers, as well as the CD itself. And our friend Daniel in Berlin, a sound engineer for film and television, graciously lent us forty (FORTY!) hours of his time to mix and master the music. (And, just to throw it in there, we met all of these people thanks to couchsurfing - and now they are very close friends of ours who we are thankful to know!)
Since making it has been such a special experience, Dan and I also thought selling it should be one, too - so we brainstormed and came up with a lot of new things to offer on his purchase page in addition to the albums and mp3s, things like t-shirts and sweatshirts, a songbook of lyrics and chords, a 12-string Breedlove guitar, and even a private concert.

Like a lot of artists, Dan often has a hard time describing his own music, so I went ahead and surprised him by writing the album notes on cdbaby:
If the title for Daniel Coyle's new album From Prague to Paris sounds like an ode to travel, well, it is. Coyle wrote the album while on a year-long tour of Europe, and the theme of movement permeates throughout each of these ten songs. Tracks like "These Times," "C'est La Vie," and "The Day" have the airy assonance of a carefree rover, and Coyle's earnest lyrics only add to the charm. This recording is often imbued with a cheerful musicality, but Coyle impressed this listener most with the quick picking and strumming of "Pelito Menagerie" - a moodily evocative piece with appropriately picturesque lyrics. Even for a genre that is frequently being remade, From Prague to Paris is a refreshing folk album, with Coyle modernizing the familiar theme of being on the road with his energetic talent.
Congratulations on finishing your fourth album, dearie! I am so proud of you.
