About This Blog

Thanks for stopping by the blog
of singer/songwriter Dan Coyle;
I'll keep this little gem up to date
while on the road, writing, recording,
and meeting my fans at shows. This
may give you some insight
into just
how weird I can be - and
all of the
weird things I enjoy.
There will be
 stories, poems,
rants, musings, and
other forms of
writing that my feeble
vocabulary
cannot contend with.
Hope you
enjoy!

The Allure of Amsterdam
Spending my first full week in Amsterdam was absolutely lovely.
All of the canals, boats, and bicycles really did my heart some good.

Amsterdam is one of those places I had only heard of.  I’ve listened
to folks drone on about, “oh it’s dangerous there” and “all people do
is smoke pot,” yada-yada-ya.  Having spent a week there, and
meeting some actual Dutch locals, I didn’t find these things to be
true at all.

The Dutch seem like a very simple people to me.  They don’t put on
airs, they are friendly and easy going.  They just want to live their
lives, ride their bikes around town, and go boating through the
canals; that sounds like the life to me!

I played a great show at the Jet Lounge, which is owned and run by
an American ex-patriot from California, Mark.  He is such a nice guy.
He even bought a CD of mine after the show (the first time an owner
has ever done that!) and invited me back to play again in July, which
I promptly accepted.

We met many great people the night of the show.  Martin, a friendly
guy who invited us to stay at his house that night; and Bart, who
runs Spotted By Locals, invited to stay over the next night!  Both of
these invitations, much like the offer to come play again in July,
were promptly accepted.

That’s how it seems to go here.  People just like to relax, have fun,
meet new people, and so on; I could really get used to this.  I guess
I should get used to it since I just booked four new shows in
Amsterdam for June and July!

Recent songs that I’ve written (which will be on a new album
released in September) have been really well received so far,
which makes me happy.  I’m about to go work on putting together
a page for pre-sale of the album, which will begin July 1st!

Talk to you next Monday!
